Jim was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, California on July 14,1944. He grew up in Huntington Beach, California. He attended Huntington Beach Central Elementary and Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana. He also attended Goldenwest College, the University of Portland and he graduated California State University Long Beach in 1985.
